What to Visit in Birmingham, Englands Second City
Birmingham boasts one of the largest international shopping
centres, a national exhibition centre and one of the liveliest
night lives in the UK. Birmingham is building a great
international reputation and attracting more people to
experience all that in chic in modern city living so here are a
few of the highlights you will not want to miss if you get the
opportunity to visit this style pinpoint.
The Bullring: A fashion focus with every shop you can think of
the Bullring will offer you a massive choice of high street
shops and is the largest complex in Europe. Between the
Bullring and the surrounding city centre of the Mailbox, New
Street and Corporation Street with the Pallasades and the
Pavillions two other main shopping areas there is nothing you
cannot buy. The Discovery centre in the Jewellery Quarter is
also globally renowned as being one of the starting places of
the jewellery trade and manufacturers are still able to offer
the most unique and elegant jewellery at exclusive prices
available in the district.
The City centre also homes the Millennium point which houses
scientific interactive technology to inspire and inform the
general public. There is also an Imax screen that screens
different concerts, film and informative films. There is also
the National Indoor Area, The Birmingham Museum and Art
Gallery, Central Library, The Chinese Quarter and several
theatres with all kinds of shows and performers available all
year round.
The National Sea Life Centre is also local to the city centre
near to the canals that run through the heart of the city, with
several relaxing venues to eat and drink in the Brindleyplace
complex. Centenary Square is also used to facilitate large
gathering for football matches or New Year’s Eve and is an open
space most of the year with something usually going on like the
German market at Christmas and an city centre beach in the
summer.
The night life focuses around the Broad Street district but
there are many venues available for evening activities such as
the usual restaurants, bars and pubs there are also comedy
clubs, themed evenings, Ballet and the City of Birmingham
Symphony Orchestra. Most people can find something they will
enjoy.
There are two main churches to visit St. Chads Cathedral and St
Martin’s near the Bullring but there are centres in Birmingham
for many religious backgrounds including Dhamma Talaka Pagoda a
special venue to learn about Buddism, The Central Mosque and
Jewish Temple.
Just outside the heart of the city are many local attractions
like the Barber Institute of Fine Arts located on the
Birmingham University Campus and The Botanical Gardens, The
Birmingham Nature Centre all within a short distance of Cannon
Hill and the Midlands Art Centre.
There are also major attractions close by in the form of
Cadbury World which is where the world famous chocolate is
manufactured as well as Starcity the leisure complex that has
all kinds of restaurants and cinemas.
Attractions within the region consist of The West Midlands
Safari Park, Drayton Manner Park and Zoo, Dudley Zoo, and
Shakespeare’s Stratford.
